We would like to thank the Etowah County residents who have graciously volunteered to serve as this inaugural year’s April Walking Tour Guides. They are: April 6 - Forrest Hinton of Gadsden Public Library; April 13 - Michael Rodgers of City of Gadsden; April 20 - Pudden McArthur of A Walk Through Time and April 27 - Craig Scott with Gadsden Public Library. Feel free to attend one or all four and we encourage you to find a great spot for lunch afterwards.

Each year in April, The Alabama Tourism Department hosts the statewide April Walking Tours which gives tourists a free chance to learn historical and interesting facts about Alabama towns. This year Gadsden, Alabama joins for the first time as a participating city. More than 2,000 people participated in the 2023 April Walking Tours, with 23 towns across the state hosting the tours.

Partnering with the Alabama Tourism Department April Walking Tours, Greater Gadsden Area Tourism is offering free walking tours hosted by a local town resident. Come and take a stroll down Broad Street and learn about Gadsden’s rich and interesting history. The hour-long tours start at 10:00 a.m. each Saturday morning in April. Dates for the 2024 April Walking Tours are April 6, 13, 20 and 27. This event is sponsored by Greater Gadsden Area Tourism and there is no cost to participate.

Interested patrons should arrive at the back of the Visitors Information Center, located in the Downtown Civic Center at 623 Broad St. Gadsden, AL 35901 by 9:45 am. Park and meet at the rear of the building, which is accessible via North 6th St. Walking tours will head East down Broad Street promptly at 10:00 am. Please dress in casual, weather-appropriate clothing with comfortable shoes and feel free to bring your own water. Restroom stops will be available during the walking tour. Tours will continue in a light drizzle but will be cancelled if there is a downpour. Any weather cancellations will be published via Greater Gadsden Area Tourism’s facebook page by 9 am on the day of the scheduled tour.
